Now that summer is kind of over and people are moving into pants and denim, I’ve noticed a lot of exaggerated silhouettes out there in the world. Nothing crazy—on occasion, sure, but everyone is in wide-leg jeans. I bought this pair of Carpenter denim pants from Another Tomorrow in the spring at a point when I was a few pounds lighter than usual (lol) and now can’t button them up (hopefully soon. Their pant sizing is a bit small in the waist.)
In the meantime, I became obsessed with Jamie Haller’s jeans, especially The Slouch, because they are baggy like a boyfriend jean and have a dropped crotch, which was giving me Demi Moore in new J. Crew catalog vibes below. These are Demi’s jeans, which are cheaper (and not sold out). I bought the Haller ones in a 28, which were so baggy I could almost pull them down without unbuttoning them. I returned them and then obsessively checked the site until a 27 became available and snagged them. I didn’t realize til I read Jane Herman’s interview with Jamie, she has a solid jean background, which is why they are so good. Also, the Haller The Easy jean is the same silhouette as The Slouch, just a longer hem.
Then a pant with a baggy waist. I feel like this is a silhouette that will work while the weather is still transitioning, because once I need to add layers, I think I might look like a blob. Still, I have two Goop trunks this month in CA and I know that I would use them then and again when it warms up. I am going to try the Matteau Fisherman Drawcord (below). This is not a new silhouette for them, but I have hesitated because I’m not sure I want anything “extra” around my waist. We will see. Jamie Haller also has similar pants, The Everything.
Then, something that has been happening for while, but I find the combinations are getting more original is playing with black, white and ivory/nude in different fabrications, so there is not only the dichotomy of color, but also texture. Think sheer silk and leather, or lightweight cotton and something nubby.
Grounding something feminine with something heavier and textural feels fresh. I am not seeing this on the runway per se, but on the street. Any of the pieces above from next season would be great to mix in with something heavy. It’s like taking a piece from my Something Super Feminine post and throwing a black leather jacket over it. I might try it with my Matteau white cargos which are super lightweight.
Can I also mention the beautiful earring/necklace pieces from Alaia? It is one piece, an earlace? Though if you got it caught in something, yikes. Thinking of wearing my Rounded Box Chain solo to replicate on some level.
That’s all for now.

Jennifer, curious as to why you didn’t buy the J.Crew jeans? Was it the wash?
Ha! Such similar concepts I explored in some of my recent posts- love when something is in the ether - it makes me feel “with it!” lol. With that said I also bought the Slouch jeans and I’m obsessed!!! I sized down as well and they’re perfection. Fun read!
