If you are shopping Memorial Day Sales I hope you find some treasures. Remember, don’t buy anything just because it’s on sale. My purchase is at the end of this post. It was the “if-it-goes-on-sale-it’s-mine” and I am glad I snagged it at 40% off. I’m not posting more on sales, maybe later. I’m heading out of town for 8 nights and this is what I’m taking with me.
I love warm weather clothes, because they pack up so small and you can take more than you might need which is always a plus in my book. My husband and I are headed to Amsterdam and Copenhagen for a much needed vacation, where the weather is going to be (mostly) sunny and mid 60s and 70s. Some of the clothes I’m taking are new, some are new vintage, some haven’t been worn yet (my vintage white Celine tuxedo) and are finally going to see the light of day. I can’t tell you yet if I’m taking just carryon or checking, mostly because the travel duffle I ordered from Paravel (posted on here) arrives this afternoon and I’m leaving at 5pm, so the race is on! Burn some rubber UPS! I want some space to bring things back so will choose my bags accordingly.
My inspiration for my travels and summer dressing are these images of Malgosia Bela looking chic and effortless.
In The Suitcase
Day Looks
Maria McManus khaki cargo shirt. Really a shacket because it’s a heavier weight twill. To wear as a jacket over everything. (Maria sold out, but a few left here. Or she has lighter weight in white and black.)
Old Nili Lotan striped long sleeve.
White Frances de Lourdes button down.
Black Maria McManus placket front button down.
Black matching Maria McManus cotton drawstring trousers (yes, I’m going for a “set” this season.)
Chocolate Base Range tee. Other tees not pictured: Grey FDL, navy John Smedley polo.
Khaki Maria McManus cargo pant. (New for pre-fall and coming out next week, will post when available.) Like all pants shown here, not much hanger appeal, but great, even sexy on. Wearing these day and night.
Tibi white jeans I posted about (they run super huge, I have a 25, and are sold out pretty much everywhere. Maybe Tibi will restock?)
Toteme white cargos (last season, bought on sale). Very lightweight. Still available here. But I like a summer pant paired with….
Grey cashmere Khaite sweater. My last fall purchase.
Night Looks
Vintage white Celine tuxedo blazer. Bought from Resee last Spring, finally wearing.
Matching vintage Celine pants.
Nili Lotan black cami. (Always a reliable piece.)
Toteme monogram satin pants. Bought last Spring, love them. So good to travel with.
Vintage Comme des Garçons polka-dot dress. Recent purchase ($300) at Front General Store’s new second floor space that has a lot of vintage. If you like sleuthing, highly recommend.
John Patrick Organic black slip dress (another perennial wardrobe item). To wear under the CDG dress or anything else.
The Row summer weight trench bought on sale three years ago.
My Plane Outfit—not shown
FDL Astrid pants and Elise tee with old Another Tomorrow black blazer (same fabric as this).
The Shoes
Four pairs (which is a low count for me so maybe something else will slip in there), sneakers for day, flats and a kitten-heel mule for night: My Wales Bonner Adidas, slip-on Vans (which I’m feeling again), vintage Prada mules from TRR and my The Row Ava Mary Janes which I bought last year, didn’t wear, and now do often.
Bags
Like my luggage, TBD—the Métier bag I talked about didn’t pan out, so it will be nothing new. Also, if you haven’t seen my video on packing cubes, watch below (from last summer and no I didn’t actually pack my shoes without dust bags; so many viewers got fixated on that). I am a firm believer in them, especially in spring/summer with lightweight clothes. They are a game changer; I get mine at Muji.
Some Extras
I am not the person who travels with a bunch on beauty products on a flight. It’s seven hours, I’ll survive with some lip balm and maybe a hand lotion. Always traveling with my jewelry (pearl earrings seem appropriate in the land of Vermeer), always my Perfumer H Indian Wood and a little travel candle (this one from our stay at Sea Ranch Lodge) for the hotel room.
My Official Guide Book
Everything off of Yolo Journal’s Amsterdam Black Book and Scandinavia Travel Planner.
I will share my personal guide once I return!
What I bought on sale
This super lightweight windbreaker from Nackiyé (also at full price on their site). Frankly it’s almost already too hot for all the barn jackets people are posting (though I would love this from The Row if someone is feeling generous, but would never buy at full price on my own), and I like the idea of windbreaker with style for summer to through over short sets and dresses. I bought the size 36.
And….
I bought the controversial jellies from The Row, I put my name on the waitlist on their site. I can still return them when I get back from my trip, but do feel that since my clothes continue to get more and more streamlined, that a splash of madness is actually a good thing.
Until I return!

You got those jellies😁of course! Enjoy your travels!
“Controversial jellies” made me laugh! Love the pearl earrings and look forward to your newsletter after the trip. Also fingers crossed that UPS arrives in time. Safe travels!
