It took me a hot minute to get this post together, because what I want to wear on the weekends (for the most part) revolves around finding the right pair of black jeans and I finally did. We will start there.
This The Row image below is how I imagine dressing on the weekend. Yes, I’ve posted it before, but I mean what I say and I say what I mean—everything I post is literally what I wear. Sometimes there are some wish items, but I now own (have ordered or will) everything listed below. So.
The jeans. As I mentioned before, I wanted a black black, not a wash. The ones I ended up buying are my first pair of The Row jeans, the Dan (all links in captions below). I ordered both the Dan and the Eglitta. The Eglitta have a very short rise and a wider leg. The Dan have a higher rise (I think 2” more") and a narrower leg and the hem was perfect on me (am 5’5”) which is rare. I could squeeze into a size 2, but went with a 4. I am at the age where I am ok with my jeans being a bit baggy, which these aren’t unless they stretch out, which they might.
The jeans I almost bought and coming in tight second place are the Alex Mill Relaxed Wide Leg Jean. They have a rise similar to the Dan, but with buttons instead of a zip and the leg is slightly wider (hem an inch longer?) The only reason I didn’t buy them is the wash (not pitch black), because they give exactly the same look and are also 100% cotton like The Row. So if you want to save money here, go with the Alex Mill, they are very good.
Then, into outfit specifics. My friend Heidi Wynne’s cashmere scarf is the perfect color. I saw a woman the other day wearing a black turtleneck and black pleated skirt with a large scarf (similar to this one) over only one shoulder. The scarf made the outfit; I will be copying that scarf trick. Then, the Frances de Lourdes cashmere shirt in this year’s new shade of charcoal grey. I have worn my navy one to death (and it’s still in great shape); unbuttoned over a long-sleeve tee or turtleneck. Such a fan of this. The Old Stone Trade X Quoddy Camp Mocs are also about to go into heavy rotation. Quoddy mocs are something I’ve thought about for years, so when these came out, I immediately ordered a pair. They are similar to my Miu Miu ones, but are sturdier and meant for colder days. I love the leather color, too. (The price is much better, too.)
As I mentioned before, the Severson men’s flannel shirt is a great layering piece. I also wanted an all black outfit option so purchased this Suzie Kondi sweatshirt; I’ve been on the hunt for a solid weight sweatshirt beyond a Champion Reverse Weave and this one won out. COS kindly gifted me this weird brown cashmere sweater. COS cashmere is solid; I bought my first sweater from them last fall and it has held up quite well. I am into the weird brown and wore it last weekend in Philadelphia. And always a pair of Birks in my life.
Add to all this some vintage Levi’s and my Barbour jacket and I’m set.

I’ve just screen shot both “ capsules “ for fall dressing reference ! Can you share your styling ideas for the plaid shirt ? I haven’t worn one in , well almost never , but I’m warming up to the idea . It has to be just the right plaid though ….and the one you’ve bought is perfect .
Your weekend wear is my everyday wear, and my weekend wear does not involve clothing with a fitted waist. I do live country-ish and there is always something to be done in the yard, and I have dogs. It works best when my clothes aren’t too precious. This fall I’ve pulled out some black jeans and have been experimenting with them. Browns and camels do me no favors so, I will attempt to copy your ideas but substitute cooler tones. And.. like others have said stying inspiration would be great, especially for the Birks. I have some Boston’s but only wear them in the house. Do you wear yours out and about?
