Who Makes My Fave Standout Dresses?
Each season needs a surprise piece; this is where I find mine.
While most of the time, my holiday dressing revolves around a tuxedo blazer or top and all the trimmings (which I wrote about here), on occasion, I like to go seriously off-piste. IMO you always need one standout dress a season that pushes you a bit out of your comfort zone (which probably only happens if you’re more of a minimalist like I am and not a maximalist). I wrote about my summer Toteme dress here, and this dress above, is another Toteme I bought last fall.
I find Toteme’s dress offerings sync with my aesthetic on so many levels. Many are very clean, elegant and timeless—this black jersey dress (not pictured) is so CBK to me, and when they go a little nuts (like my dress above) and this brocade one from this year, it somehow works. Of course, the wilder dresses sell out quickly (which says something) so you can’t dither. I got mine last year after they sold out and then had to vigilantly check for restocks and nabbed one. (Enzo and I match so I had to get him in the picture.)
I wore mine out last night to an event with super old (maybe 15 years) Alaia suede booties but would also pair any of the dresses with my Manolo Maysales. If I could I would also get these The Row Viva sandals. I love the grey jersey below too…honestly, I would take a wardrobe of Toteme dresses, which says a lot considering I’m allergic to most dresses.
Then, I recently discovered a newer line, Heirlome, which I will cover more coming up, because I purchased a stand out ensemble (top, long skirt) to take on my holiday trip to Mexico (I nabbed the last pieces, but the designer Stephanie has more newness in store). The quality is excellent, the fans—Lauren Santo Domingo and some other famous actors I’m not sure I can mention are beyond chic. You will get my edit from them (and more) very soon so stay tuned!
