Being an editor involves culling information from various sources, and one of the joys of not only posting on Substack, is also following others where I discover inspiration/things I would have never found on my own. Lately, many writers have been professing their love of all things Alex Mill, which is the affordable clothing line created by Alex Drexler, son of Mickey Drexler (genius behind OG Gap and J. Crew/Jenna Lyons heyday). I have an Alex Mill Standard Zip jumpsuit which is a few years old and fits to a tee, but mostly the brand hasn’t been on my radar.
So, after reading Jess Graves of The Love List talk about them (and host an event), as well as Laura Reilly of Magasin and Megan Strachan of Dorsey Official, I decided to go try some pieces on at their UES store. Specifically a couple of dresses, because I wanted something for the end of summer that was simple and affordable and online, it looked like they had options. I walked away with two: the silk Scarlett slip dress and the cotton button-front Piper dress. Both fit really well and are so easy to throw on. My favorite is the Scarlett, though one flaw is the back button at the neck doesn’t lay flat (the person at the store said it was the same for everyone). My photos are a bit fuzzy but you get the idea. I am going to keep my eye out for more come fall from Alex Mill. The price point, fit and details (nice shell buttons) are spot on.
Other fun, random bits I recently picked up include these two coffee cups from the Atlanta-based artist Charlotte Smith. My friend Kelley Estes turned me on to Charlotte’s work and I use one of her cups every morning for coffee. These in particular remind me of Native American Santa Clara pottery (which I have a few pieces of). If you sign up for her newsletters you will get emails when the next product drop is. And her blue pieces? I could go a little crazy here.
I bought an old Rolling Stone issue from eBay on Yoko, mostly because I wanted to see if her necklace was indeed a heart-shaped diamond (it is). Have been thinking about creating one for my jewelry line. Thoughts? Sofia Coppola used to wear one as well. Maybe. I’m also into Yoko’s Porsche sunglasses (and pretty much everything she wears).
I also got my hands on the new (re-launch) issue of Unconditional Magazine which you can now order online. Of course, it is amazing.
And the new Toteme fall campaign shot by Mikael Jansson staring Vivienne Roehner and Liisa Winkler….swoon. I cannot wait for it to be 40° so I can wear my black double breasted Toteme coat I bought end of last year (and almost forgot about).

Love this!
Love this post, thanks for sharing the links on the Scarlett dress- it's beautiful! Also, Yoko''s heart shaped diamond necklace reminded me of the one Oprah gave to Gayle King. She wears it every day and it is perfect. Now I want one!
I also have photos of Yoko's Dakota apartment on a pinterest board for inspiration for my next home. I love the minimalist yet elegant spirit of the living room - and that long white sofa is sheer perfection.
