I can’t believe how early people put up gift guides these days (apparently I’m one of the last at this point), but Thanksgiving is very late this year, which means you might want to be more organized than usual (or be last minute like my late father who liked to shop on Christmas Eve, that being said, my mom received some very good jewelry gifts that way). These are all things I truly want (or already have) and as I mentioned in my last email, they are creations from talented people who are generous in spirit and committed to their craft (ok, and my jewelry, which I think counts). In no particular order:
Slippers
Specifically for me, Charvet slippers, which you can find here, here and here. (You can order men’s sizes if you get it right.) I have been wanting a pair for quite a while, but with a trip to Paris possibly on the horizon, I’m holding out for an in-person visit to the store (can you believe I’ve never been?!) Because as Suzanne Koller put in her IG, below….they come in Dove Grey. And the pouch just makes them that much more special.
Other more affordable slippers that I love and currently wear are Sabah’s leopard Babas. Mine are a few years old and nicely worn in. Sometimes I think about getting another pair, but then I can’t image how I could improve on them so I don’t. And for a classic that truly stands up (better than shearling-lined Birks, just saying) are L.L. Bean Wicked Good Slippers. My daughter has them and now that my shearling lined Birks are basically bald, I think it’s time to switch over.
Pajamas
I love a good set of pjs. I have two summer weight Schostal sets I bought in Rome last year and now Gucci Westman and Alex Mill are doing holiday collabs with them. What I want, however, are these from P. Le Moult in Paris (which I learned about from Crystal Voyager). They don’t have small sizes right now (found a few here, but they also have pink with red, which is tempting as is this robe and this velvet Hussar jacket).
Something Snuggly & Red
Red is my happy color, so something warm in a bright tomato shade boosts my mood once it gets grey outside. This MLH by Margaret Howell scarf (also here), this COS scarf, and a more expensive but gorgeous one from The Row; this Rika Studios sweater (Ulrika gifted one to me and I’m wearing it as I write this, not many sizes left but worth it); this Suzie Kondi cashmere beanie; this Guest in Residence V neck; not snuggly but chic, The Row 90s bag, because a little red bag goes a long way (though I keep eyeing this one, too).
More Perfumer H.
My go-to scent is Indian Wood from Perfumer H. I have the tiny bottle, but boy would I love the hand-blown bottle above. Lyn Harris, the founder of Perfumer H. is exactly the kind of founder I was talking about in my last post. She has methodically and meticulously created a brand that feels so personal and intentional. You can find her fragrances at a few places in the U.S. (here and here), but here’s hoping she opens a store soon. There are candles and teas, too. Meanwhile her two latest collaborations—the scent Saddle with Cameron Smith, the founder of the LA-based vintage furniture gallery that would be a dream home, Galerie Half, and her newest, A Feast with British food writer, Nigel Slater is evocative of winter and holiday celebrations and speaking of Nigel Slater…
More Nigel Slater Books
I will admit, I was reading some of Nigel’s latest IG posts and the one cookbook of his I have, Tender (I love to read cookbooks and drink a glass of wine in the evening—occasionally I put all that reading to real use), and thought how much I appreciate his personal take on food, his garden and beyond. And perhaps I should take this idea into consideration here (being more personal). He, like Lyn is methodical and meticulous and singular in his vision. Have you seen his home?
It is minimal but warm; I find it supremely inspiring. In the meantime, he has a new book out, A Thousand Feasts: Small Moments of Joy. and I also ordered an older one, The Christmas Chronicles: Notes, stories & 100 essential recipes for Midwinter, because his readers gush paragraphs about it. These will be January, cozy by the fire reads.
Speaking of Homes
Things that don’t fit under a tree but I can dream about in my future….a ski house (though I don’t ski) in Jackson Hole by Studio Mellone similar to Lauren Santo Domingo’s in the new Architectural Digest. You can find more imagery on IG from StudioMellone, photographer Adrian Gaut and stylist Colin King. So that at one point, but first, a jewel box atelier (for my jewelry) by Martin Brûlé please. And speaking of jewelry…
JA Jewelry
You’d think I own all the pieces myself, but I don’t. I’m too small at this point to be that indulgent. On my wish list: The trio of pendants above, the Enamel Pavé Diamond Drop, the Stash Pendant with an emerald cabochon, and the JJ Case with Seven Diamonds. And then more rings, including the Moi et Toi Enamel and Pavé Ring and the Onyx Signet with Emeralds (below).
This Limited Edition Scarf
If you have been following me, you know that Vintner’s Daughter products are always part of my skincare regimen and I am a big fan of the founder, April Gargiulo. Her latest limited edition piece, a silk scarf with floral and almost Art Deco motifs is chiiic. The skincare products make a good gift as well, but, this scarf….look at how they put it with outfits etc. I want to be that woman, which means I might need this accessory.
The Perfect Stocking Stuffer
I love a yummy scented hand lotion and have a tradition of gifting them, so I’m excited my friend Tess of Poetica has launched a purse-size edition of her Jasmine Grandiflor scent (there is also Lemon Myrtle and Cardamom).
Unlike other hand lotion tubes, this one actually fits in your small makeup pouch. I’ve been waiting for Tess to launch this, plus her new soaps. and garment care (need for my next trip).
Home Improvements I Can Get
While I wait for my dream ski chalet and jewelry atelier, I can update the mood of my current home with this Daisies Vase from Forsyth + Laguna B. and this Faye Toogood bottle green ceramic stool.
That’s all for now!
