Fall: My City Wardrobe Edit
The pieces (some new, some old) that will anchor what I wear this season.
Cashmere! Grey! Pants! Blazers! Loafers! Everything about dressing for Fall makes me so insanely happy. I do not exaggerate. I never feel more myself when I’m wearing tailored cool weather clothes. For those old enough to remember in the 80s when you chose your makeup based on your seasonal color chart (Color Me Beautiful by Carole Jackson anyone?), I think I was autumn, but I have always been about autumn in every aspect. And back-to-school shopping? Obsessed at a very early age (Buster Brown saddle shoes in 1st grade).
The nice thing about being an adult is I (usually) don’t grow out of my favorite clothes so I can wear them year after year. And as I have been discussing lately, I now have such a solid wardrobe and the items I want to add are investments, I keep a running wish list and check them off when I can. Many things I am buying this year were on my list last year. It’s a slow evolution and I enjoy it.
This season I am breaking my posts into City and Weekend/Country though there are a couple of crossovers. This is my personal list, so it’s a bit specific. And, if you want to see it in an easy-to-shop format, check out my ShopMy page where all the items are with links. Not everyone has launched all of their fall products yet, so I will add additions there and cover them in some format in the newsletter. First, we start at the top.
A Grey Blazer. I found mine at Bergdorf’s from The Row on sale. It is single breasted and a bit oversized which is the shape I was after. I do have a pale grey double-breasted wool suit I bought from Maria McManus last year (this is on sale, not one I bought though), so now I have two options to wear. One always needs a black blazer and I own several options but that is not exciting me right now (for evening always, but day not as much). I also love the idea of chocolate brown like this Maria McManus (and more on that below). Other grey options include this Toteme (and matching trousers), this new The Row, and this from COS (which hopefully will get restocked).
A white button-down (ultimate, mid-range, reasonable) and an elegant stripe button-down.
Pleated pants. I once bought The Row pleated pants in ivory and black crepe and navy wool (all found on sale) so I am set for a while. These Carven, these Bottega, The Row Igor (very similar to mine), COS, Toteme on sale,
These black pants. The cropped tailored trouser from Maria McManus, which I wrote about last Spring. These are a flattering, go-with-everything workhorse pant. Once I find a favorite, I stick with it. These are indispensable.
Black jeans. I want a pair with a wider leg and loose-ish fit. Mostly I still want to replicate this The Row look, above (from last Spring). I need to go try a few on, because the price range I’m considering is all over the place, from these Alex Mill, to these to The Row Eglitta jeans (I have yet to try on a pair of The Row jeans). I want them to be pretty dark, but I’m also picky because I don’t like a too saturated shade of black and buttons and details matter. (More denim thoughts to come in my weekend post and will report back once I try the black ones.)
A black crewneck cashmere sweater. Besides my Uniqlo (you can’t go wrong), I own a nice one from The Row that is way past its prime. I was going to do it last year, but the funds ran out. This is why I love brands that have repeat classics. I think The Row classic Sibem.
A grey v-neck cashmere sweater. I have this Celine I bought a few years ago, so I’m set. There is Uniqlo, this Alex Mill and then the other I want to share hasn’t launched yet so you’ll just have to wait. Plus, I have more grey knit thoughts for another post, since they are an obsession of mine.
Loafers. I wrote about wanting The Row Eel Soft Loafers in the Spring (called them “dorky”; they kind of are) and just bought them. Dina, who has worked in the shoe department at Bergdorf’s for 39 years told me to size up a full size, because they are hand-made, run small and each pair fits differently. She was right. I took a whole size up. They feel like a handmade shoe; they hug your foot in the right places and are seriously comfortable. Shoes are so expensive now, but these feel like an expert Italian cobbler made them. Equally chic and more affordable (also Italian made) are Emme Parsons moc croc loafer. Another route is to custom-order a pair of Belgian shoes. A pair in gray flannel with black trim are on my forever wish list. Some day.

Manolo Blahnik Maysale mules and The Row Liisa python kitten heels. Dressy shoes I can walk in that quickly elevate anything I’m wearing. I already wrote about the Manolo’s recently and also posted this chic woman (above) before, but I love the idea of my pleated pants or my Maria McManus cropped trouser, the mules or kitten heels, my black cashmere sweater and jacket. Easy, elegant, timeless. Check, check, check!
My Hermès Bolide bag. Can I say it again? Easy, elegant, timeless. And resale from Fashionphile, so a quadruple win.
A vintage Hermés scarf. To add some color and a bit of Jackie O vibes.
The weekday to weekend items are two jackets.
This Nili Lotan chocolate corduroy Diana Blazer. I have this same shape in a wool glen plaid from Nili I wear every year. I love the idea of a cozy corduroy blazer for the weekend or for more casual weekdays when I’m running jewelry errands in the city.
The Barbour Allerston I wrote about last post. Like the chic woman above, field jackets aren’t just weekend attire anymore.

I would love to see how you style an Hermes scarf. I have some beauties but never feel chic in them. If anyone can convince me, it would be you!
Those JA Knife Edge Hoops!!! 🖤
